Where They’re Headed: Gabe Rybeck ’16

Gabe Rybeck ’16 will apply his interest in data science to his new position with Booz Allen Hamilton, a strategy and technology consulting firm that recently celebrated 100 years of innovation that does everything from devising cyber network protection to speeding up biological review of life-saving vaccines. Rybeck will join the NextGen Analytics and Data Science team to perform data cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as some IT consultation.

While the applications of the firm’s innovative projects are manifold, Rybeck will work primarily with government and commercial clients, so his data-science projects will have an economic focus. He expects much of his work for the company to engage the topics he studied for his double major in computer science and economics and concentration in mathematical economics. It was, he says, Professor Anne Preston’s class in econometrics and Assistant Professor Sorelle Friedler’s “Data Science and Visualization” course that prepared him for this line of work.

Rybeck is now looking forward to the practical applications of the skills he gained at Haverford. He is excited to work in data science and thinks that work might eventually lead him to business school, engineering school, or somewhere completely different.

“I hope to get a sense of the field and find a niche where I can contribute the most,” he says.

“Where They’re Headed” is a blog series reporting on the post-collegiate plans of recent Haverford graduates.
