Commencement 2011

Commencement 2011

On Sunday, May 15th, two hundred ninety-nine students will receive their diplomas and become alumni of Haverford College.

We invite you to join us — virtually — on the College’s website where you can follow every exciting moment of Commencement Day as we report it to you live on the homepage thanks to the Haverblog and our Twitter feed. The fun begins at 10:00 a.m.

Post memories of your own Commencement in the comments, then, tune in again on Sunday at 10 a.m. for the big day.

  1. I still fondly recall my graduation from Haverford in 1975. One of the things that made Haverford special for me, as the first person in my family to earn a college degree, was the strong interest in my well-being and support for my efforts by the late Bill Ambler, former director of admissions. As I recounted in a memorial submitted after his death, Mr. Ambler came up to me after the ceremony and asked me how I liked my diploma. In all of the excitement, I had not yet opened the diploma jacket to see my diploma. Standing with Mr. Ambler and my parents, I opened it and discovered that he had the chance to play the last practical joke on me by substituting for my diploma a photocopy of a student journal which featured my image in profile of the former Quaker image used by the College. Of course, my diploma was behind the photocopy. Mr. Ambler was as proud and filled with joy as my parents during my graduation. I treasure that memory. I hope all this year’s graduates have similar wonderful experiences.

  2. May 1998 – It was a bittersweet day! I felt very proud to be graduating from such a wonderful school. I remember thinking that my “Papa” (my paternal grandfather who passed away when I was very young) would be looking down very proudly from heaven. But I was sad to be leaving what had really come to feel like a second home and all of the great people, both students, faculty and staff at both Haverford and Bryn Mawr. Looking back, I feel very fortunate that I am still close friends with many classmates and most importantly that I have been happily married to one for nearly 8 years.

  3. Congratulations to you all. It was a pleasure to have been a part of taking care of your culinary needs and I hope that you all come back to visit often. Best of luck in the future.
