Where They’re Headed: Tejan Walcott ’17

The former mainstay on the Fords men’s soccer team is translating his athletic passions into a Sales Associate role with the Philadelphia 76ers.

After an impressive career that included back-to-back Centennial Conference Championships as a member of the men’s soccer team, Tejan Walcott ’17 is now taking his love of sports pro. As a Sales Associate for the Philadelphia 76ers, he will gain insight into the innerworkings of Philadelphia’s NBA franchise. In his role, he is responsible for selling the Sixers’ brand to the city’s residents and its ever so passionate fanbase.

Walcott, a three-year starting forward on the soccer team, was not ready to let go of athletics in his everyday life upon graduation. “Having played soccer my whole life, I wanted to continue working in a team environment in a field that I have a strong knowledge of,” he said. What better way to work in a team environment than working for a professional sports team?

“Working in sports and live entertainment is a dream so many people share,” said the growth and structure of cities major who wrote his thesis on the global appeal for cities in hosting the Olympic Games. “It’s an honor to work for a sports team with an iconic history, an award-winning corporate culture, and a future bright with innovation. But I am also so enthused by the role sports play in our culture. Our athletes and the brands they represent have a tremendous economic, political, and cultural influence on our society. Being a part of this influence is exciting to me.”

During his job search, Walcott spoke with several alums in the field and was grateful for their advice. He hopes to offer similar mentorship to Ford grads of the future. “Any little piece of wisdom can really help to shape the decisions you make,” he said.

His long-term goal is a future career in sports management, either as a franchise executive or as an athletic director at a Division-I collegiate institution. But for now he is excited to be working for a team with a young, strong core of dynamic players known for their work ethic and commitment to the success. A bright and exciting future is in store for both Walcott and the Philadelphia 76ers organization.
