What’s the connection between philosophy, comedy, spirituality, and video games? They were all on the Haverford events calendar for a recent Friday night on campus.

The evening opened with a talk in the Philips Wing of Magill Library by alumnus Nate Zuckerman ’02. Zuckerman, whose appearance was part of the Young Academic Alumni Lecture Series spoke on “Becoming Who We Already Are: Heidegger and Kierkegaard on Repetition.”

As part of Haverford’s Religion and Spirituality week, the Jewish Student Union ran a learner’s Shabbat service open to anyone curious about Jewish prayers and traditions.


The Renewal College Fellowship staged its Friday Night Large Group meeting, which brings together students from Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Villanova to worship, learn, and share Christian fellowship.

The weekly meeting of the League of Legends Club packed devotees of the wildly popular multiplayer online game into Hilles 109 for some in-house scrimmaging.

And the night closed with with Los Angeles-based comedian Geoff Keith—who has been seen on CBS’s Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, E!’s Chelsea Lately, and MTV’s Disaster Date. He drew a capacity crowd in Zubrow Commons and left them howling with laughter. The show was sponsored by student group Fords Against Boredom.
