Where They’re Headed: Nick Kahn ’14

After interning with a French comic book publisher in Paris this summer, English and French double major Nick Kahn ’14 will have the opportunity to explore his passion for both languages as an English teacher for French-speaking high schoolers in Martinique. His upcoming job is part of The Teaching Assistant Program in France, which sends Americans to teach English in public schools in France and four of its overseas departments.

Kahn says he was inspired to teach because of the classroom environment at Haverford, which fosters mutual exchange between professors and students. While in studying abroad in Paris his junior year, he gained his first teaching experience through an internship with a private high school.

He looks forward to teaching in the Caribbean this year because of the many opportunities and challenges that will come with learning a new culture. In order to navigate the transition, he hopes to draw from the teaching style he appreciated in college. “I know that I have as much to learn from the students as they do from me,” he says.
