{"id":8,"date":"2010-05-25T00:57:38","date_gmt":"2010-05-25T00:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/blogs\/astronoblog\/?p=8"},"modified":"2010-05-25T00:57:38","modified_gmt":"2010-05-25T00:57:38","slug":"welcome-to-haverfords-astronoblog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/2010\/05\/25\/welcome-to-haverfords-astronoblog\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Haverford&#8217;s Astronoblog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The end of the academic year might seem like a strange time to begin a blog, but there is usually something interesting happening in Haverford&#8217;s astronomy program.\u00a0 So no time like the present!<\/p>\n<p>One of the best things about astronomy at Haverford is our great students.\u00a0 During final exam week, I hosted a dinner party at my apartment for my astronomy research students and students in my classes.\u00a0 Armed with some photos from this festive event, I&#8217;m going to open up Astronoblog by celebrating the six seniors that just graduated with a degree in either Astronomy or Astrophysics.<\/p>\n<p>Here I am with my three freshly graduated seniors: Alex Warres, Dylan Hatt, (me), and Gail Gutowski.\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty sure Alex is going to be a teacher at an astronomy camp this summer.\u00a0 Dylan is soon heading to Max Planck Institute in Germany with a Fulbright fellowship to study astronomy.\u00a0 Gail is now at Haverford to write a paper on her thesis work and will then head to UT Austin for a geophysics research position.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/files\/2010\/05\/willman_2010.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9 aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"Willman and her students\" data-src=\"http:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/files\/2010\/05\/willman_2010-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/05\/willman_2010-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/05\/willman_2010-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/05\/willman_2010-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.haverford.edu\/astronoblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/05\/willman_2010.jpg 1280w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 270px) 85vw, 270px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 270px;
