Women’s Center is Back!

It’s a new year, Haverford!

And a new year means a new staff – we’re already interviewing potential interns which has been fantastic and also hard because they’re all so great but, sadly we cannot have them all…

This Wednesday (10/6) and Thursday (10/7) we will be tabling at the DC during lunch with information about Dating and Domestic Violence as October is the national Domestic Violence awareness month. We hope that you stop by and keep yourselves informed.

And as a heads up, after fall break on Thursday, October 28th at 7:30 pm in the Women’s Center we’ll be hosting Janine Kelly from the Women’s Center of Montgomery County who will be talking in-depth about dating and intimate partner violence on campus – how to recognize it, how to help yourself of a friend in that situation, and ways of educating the community about prevention. Dating and domestic violence is and issue that affects both men and women and is something that too often people just don’t have the courage to talk about. As members of a community that holds itself responsible for taking care of one another, we hope that you take the time to come and listen and ask questions.

In case you didn’t know, the Women’s Center also provides FREE condoms to the student body: we want you to be safe. Just stop by and pick some up.

Last but not least, the Women’s Center is now also freshly stocked with FREE tea and coffee so we encourage you all to come and have some – we love visitors. The center is a great place to hang out, do homework, have meetings, watch TV and just relax. We also have a sweet lending library with every book about gender and sexuality that you can think of! (Secret: Theresa Tensuan just donated a few dozen books from her own private collection.)
