Hi Sarah

I found your posts by chance when searching google for links to Humane Education in South Africa. I'm currently living in New Zealand, having moved from SA a year ago after my Dad was hijacked there. My husband and I were both born and brought up in SA and we still love the country - despite the horrific cruelty, crime and poverty. The reason that I'm writing to you is to say thank you for taking the time to get involved in such an important field - humane education - and for sharing your experiences with others. You have inspired me to further my dream...

I have a great desire to return to South Africa and make a difference in this field. Somehow I just can't settle in New Zealand - it is so safe, so privileged and there are so few that really suffer here the way people and animals do back in South Africa. I ran a business a few years ago that organised children's camps for primary school children (Cape Wilderness Adventures) so have more than 10 years experience working with children from different backgrounds. My husband and I have a dream to run a camp that sponsors children from the townships to take part in a camp that focuses on environmental activities, with the emphasis on humane education. I believe this could play a big role in changing the children's outlook as we would host the children for four days and have them actively involved in an animal orphanage or wildlife sanctuary, with lots of personal attention.

We are taking the first steps towards researching whether or not this idea is feasible and I would really appreciate not only your advice and comments, but also any ideas for contacts / sponsorship etc that you may have which would help us get this off the ground.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
Kind regards
Tammy Schurmann
