Soccer in the Mountains

Hello everyone!

Today was the first day without morning fitness so everyone was very happy to be able to sleep in. After waking up around 8:15 (yep, that’s sleeping in for us these days), we took a four hour bus ride to Milan. Arriving around lunchtime, the entire team was able to fit into a restaurant together and have our first meal in Milan as a group. We then made our way to meet our tour guide outside the amazing Sforza Castle, which now is home to Milan’s Civic Museums.

Our tour guide told us all about the castle’s history and took us through the grounds to get a better look inside the walls. After spending some time looking around, we made our way down the Via Dante which provides a direct pathway between the castle and the Duomo. The Duomo di Milano is an amazing gothic cathedral located in central Milan that took over 400 years to complete.

After learning about its architecture and history, we walked over the Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II nearby. We were able to look around the shops (I went with a friend into Prada to pick out a gift for her mom, so one of you reading this is getting a very nice gift!) and met back in front of the Duomo to head to the Lake Como area for our third practice of the trip. It was an amazing field in an amazing location and Coach Gluck put it best when she said “we wouldn’t be able to forget this one for awhile.”

Tomorrow morning we are heading over to Lake Como to learn how to make authentic Italian pizza (yum) and spend the day in the town. Tomorrow night is our second friendly game of the trip and I know we all want to get a win! Looking forward to updating everyone!
