About
Mandy Ball ’11 has a Humanities Center internship with the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
In her own words: “I’ll be helping with communications, government relations, fund-raising, and the production of a new television series. Especially given the tough economy, “arts” programs are usually the first to go, although they aren’t always programs that people immediately think of as “arty.” PHC helps to connect people across boundaries of culture, time, and experience by supporting a host of humanities projects, even something like a reading program for a local library. Reading, writing, art, etc. are all ways of expressing ourselves that we have in common, so I’m excited to have an internship with a group whose connection to people is so accessible. I find this work particularly relevant in a time where so many people are focusing simply on surviving; even in such a hard time for our country, I think it is these kinds of things–reading, talking, connecting with other people–that can keep a lot of us going.”
