SFM,
Very informative posts! Lots of detail.
Your pieces are timely: Are you aware of pollinator week? Never knew there was such an official recognition -- I checked it out on the USDAs site. It's official: Lots of where as statements in the onlline government decree!
UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
Office of the Secretary
Washington, D.C. 20250
NATIONAL POLLINATOR WEEK
June 21-27 2010

I saw the special designation mentioned in a local newspaper article about an entomologist, Paul Goldstein , who received a grant through the Trustees of Reservations.to study bees.

I can't let Jason's mention of bats go without comment. My advice is stay away from bats and their guano. I will email you separately the CDCs recommendations for those in an enclosed space with a bat - even if you are awake and do not sustain a bite. Please keep me in the loop if you decide to consider bats for anything.
Keep the posts coming! Are no pics the rules of this blog?
