The second semester of my junior year will be over in T-17 hours, and I just rediscovered my favorite song of junior year of high school, the Postal Service remix of “Mushaboom” by Feist.* The flutter in my heart from this year ending and a little too much caffeine escalated to a full-swing palpitation when I heard the first few beats of this song come on my Pandora Radio Station, instantly recognizable to me.
“Mushaboom” comes packed with the memories of junior year’s stresses, but also carefree summer drives around the suburbs of New Jersey that always seemed to lead us to either a playground or one of our three token diners. College was but a mirage in the future then, and now I’m less than one full day from my status as a Haverford senior, and I gotta be honest with you, I’m freaking out about it.
This recollection seemingly just came out of nowhere, but really, it was stuck in the song. And as sad as I am about this year ending, this summer project is the perfect thing to have in my future
*Jane Holloway ’11 showed me this other little diddy yesterday, another remix of another song by another female vocalist, but oh how good dub-step treatment can be. What’s up, Finals Music 2K10? Here it is: La Roux – In For The Kill (Slugabed rekindle).
