Throughout my Haverford education, my primary interest has been the interdisciplinary approach to music. I decided to major in Psychology because I found in this department the institutional support I desired as well as the freedom to study exactly what I want. My concentration in Neural and Behavioral Sciences adds another dimension to my musical approach, but there are limited opportunities at Haverford to explore music from the neuroscience perspective.
This summer, I will be in San Diego, CA, working with Aniruddh D. Patel, Ph.D., Senior Fellow at the Neurosciences Institute (NSI) and Gail Knight, M.D., Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rady Children’s Hospital. Their collaborative project will focus on how music affects physiological measures of stress in babies recovering from cardiac surgery.
