Yesterday was my final day in the office though I’ll stop in tomorrow to say some good-byes and wrap up a few things. Over these next couple of days I’m working on tying up some loose ends, packing, and cleaning my living space. My dad and his wife will join me in Traverse City on Friday and we’ll spend the weekend here together so that I can introduce them to the area and show them where I’ve been all summer.
The last few weeks have been pretty busy with events at MLUI, writing a lot of new articles, and continuing to explore the region. Here are some pictures to give a taste of what I’ve been up to.
First, MLUI held the Milliken Dinner, with esteemed guests such as U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, a democrat from Michigan, and former Michigan Governor Milliken in attendance. It was held at Black Star Farms in a restored barn and we were all treated to a locally focused dinner. There were nearly 200 guests and it was interesting to be part of all of the preparation and to realize how much goes in to pulling off a large event. It was quite a successful evening.
I took a trip for work out to Frankfort, a small town along the shores of Lake Michigan, to write about the regional bus system. I used two different area buses to get out to Frankfort and enjoyed a day exploring a new beach and seeing another little Michigan town.
All summer I’ve been riding out on Old Mission Peninsula, which juts out into Grand Traverse Bay and divides it in half. It’s beautiful to ride amongst all of the farms and vineyards, and along the shore. These photos are taken from the highest point of the peninsula where you can see both East Bay and West Bay at once. This is looking out over the western bay.
And finally, a couple more Traverse City beach pictures. I’m trying to enjoy as many evenings as I can along the shore.
