This summer I’ll be working at KIPP Philadelphia Schools as one of two interns. Primarily I’ll be working for the Director of Talent in the regional office, who is responsible for hiring all the teachers in the KIPP Philadelphia schools, but I’ll also just be an extra hand around the office for anyone who needs a little extra help. KIPP is a nationwide network of charter schools committed to increasing test scores, high school graduation and college attendance rates of primarily low-income and minority youth around the country. I’ve always been interested in urban education, and although after graduating I’d like to be a classroom teacher this is an incredible opportunity to look behind the scenes of an incredibly successful school system. I’ll also be living independently for the first time (or at least semi-independently – a group of other Haverford students and I will be sharing a house together), and I’m excited to explore the city of Philadelphia and cook for myself every night!
