Anyone who loves food, and that means everyone, will be excited to know that this Sunday there will be food trucks on campus at one of events hosted by Haverford’s AIDS Service Network: Project Food Truck. You can take a week off from DC brunch and stop by founders from 11:30 to 2:30 to get food from Dadz Grilled Cheez and BrazBQ. 10% of all proceeds from the food trucks will be donated to the Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia which means that you can picnic on founders and give back to the fight against HIV and AIDS at the same time.

Don’t just stop there either. You will be able to learn more about the resources offered by Philadelphia HIV organizations and Haverford’s Morris Health Center. Come out for delicious Brazilian burgers and grilled cheese and for information that can help save lives and learn ways to give back.

Hey FORDS! Welcome back from Fall Break!

Are you in the mood for something spooky? Well you are in luck because Student Activities Office is hosting a trip to the largest haunted house in America “Terror Behind the Walls” at Eastern State Penitentiary. Not only is it HUGE but also it has been ranked amongst the Top 10 Most Frightening Attractions in America. You’ll be able to experience one of the best, funnest, and scariest moments of your life FREE OF COST. It is a great way to take your mind off of academia, homework, and other stressors (they’ll literally be spooked out of you!). So grab a group of friends and Sign up in Haverticket on Thursday October 24th at 7:00am

It takes about an hour to walk through the six differently themed attractions. >>>>> Screen shot 2013-10-21 at 3.40.27 PM

SIGN UP: In order to go on the trip you and your friends have to sign up in Haverticket on Thursday October 24th at 7:00am. The trip will take place on Thursday October 31st (Halloween! MUAHAHA) and we will be departing from the Campus Center at 7:00pm. We should be back on campus by 10:00pm. ALSO, don’t be afraid to sign up on the waiting list, you’ll never know who’ll get too scared and drop out.

WARNING: The haunted house is extremely scary! if you get cold feet at the entrance you can always opt out to not go in or can exit the show at any time. While the actors are not allowed to touch you, this year you can choose to get marked and be touched, abducted from the group, and/or even incorporated into the show.

Hello Fellow Fordians,

I hope the rain didn’t stop you from having a good time over the weekend. But if it rained on your parade, don’t worry because this week’s forecast is sunny, sunny, sunny!

You should take advantage of the good weather and go into Philly this Saturday (9.28.2013) for ‘College Day @ Philly’! There will be good live music, free admission for museums, tons of food trucks with student discounts, AND a rock wall! The best part of this special event is that it is designed for new and returning students to turn off their “study mode”,  get out of their “college bubble”, and discover what Center City is made of. The event will take place from 10am-4pm in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

In order to access all of these benefits you’ll need to take your One Card and present it in the entrance of the participating institution. So if you lost it, you better go to Safety and Security and get a replacement!

This is the list of participating museums/cultural institutions with free admission:

  • Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University
  • The African American Museum in Philadelphia
  • Eastern State Penitentiary
  • Franklin Institute
  • Moore College of Art and Design
  • National Constitution Center
  • National Museum of American Jewish History
  • Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
  • Philadelphia History Museum
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art & the Perelman Building
  • Rodin Museum

(Underlined are some of my favorite sites on Philly, but the other places are great as well!)

So tell you friends, get some Septa Tickets/Tokens, and don’t miss out on this great opportunity because it only happens once a year!

For more information and updates go to the CampusPhilly website!

**Also, Restaurant Week is still happening this weekend, so there are many excuses to get out of the “haverbubble”!**

Who will survive to Nerf another day?

Hello Fellow Fordians!

Halloween is coming up and there is no better way to get hyped for it than by playing Human Vs. Zombies. Sophomore, Casey Falk, got the idea to bring this game to Haverford when his friend raved about how  it was “the best and most exciting part of his year”.

What are the Rules of this super fun game?

~Well, they are quite simple. The game starts with almost everyone being on the human team, and they’ll have to wear a bandana on their leg or arm in order to be identified. A few individuals will be randomly chosen to be the “Original Zombies”,and will wear a bandana around their head at all times. The objective of the zombies is to tag out humans every 48 hours or else they are out of the game.  The goal of the humans is to survive the zombie invasion (not get tagged). There will be designated safe zones, such as buildings, in which everyone will be safe from attacks.

If I am a Human, can I protect myself from a Zombie?

~Yep! Everyone in the human team will be given a sock, which you can be thrown at a Zombie. The Zombie will then become stunned and won’t be allowed to participate in the game for 15 minutes. OR if you think you are not skilled in the arts of throwing, you can use a Nerf gun that can be bought at CVS.

Another fun thing that one can do in the game is create a group of Humans for safety (like in ‘The Walking Dead’). So you should tell your Customs Group and/or friends to join you in this once in a lifetime adventure.

Guess who’s already signed up to take part in this game? Deans (Donna Mancini, Theresa M.Tensua, Michael Martinez, Steven Watter), Lilly Lavner, Lory Roth and DAN WEISS!! Yes that is right, you will get the opportunity to convert one (or more) of these great folks into a Zombie and then proceed to hit them with a sock/dart! They won’t mind as long as it is in the name of ‘friendly fun’ (aka please be delicate).

In conclusion, you should register because it will be FUN!

For more information on the game you can go to this website: and/or wait for the email that will be sent out with more detailed information.

September 15-20 & Sept 22-27

September 15-20 & Sept 22-27

Hello Fellow Fordians,

Are you a foodie? Wanna go grab a bite outside of the “haverbubble”?

Well you’re in luck because Philly is holding “Center City Restaurant Week”. The event will take place throughout September 15-20 and 22-27. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous meal from one of the 90 participating restaurants. All of the establishments will be offering three-course dinners for $35, and many will also be offering a three-course lunch for $20.

Some of the restaurants will be offering specials on Saturday, September 21 but it wouldn’t be such a bad idea going Friday afternoon/night or Sunday during the day.

If you are interested in going, the events website recommends that you make a reservation (to avoid getting stuck in a long waiting line!).

Also, you still have time to sign up for Septa tokens at the Student Activities Office.
