DC Hacks: Penne Primavera
Have you grown weary of ladling a heavy cloak of sauce onto limp pasta? Want to find greater fulfillment in your dining experience, and perhaps even achieve actualized tastiness? As the saying goes, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But the DC already has lemonade, so that’s not very helpful. How about something better: if the DC gives you penne pasta, make penne primavera! Bring a taste of Italy into the DC with this super easy, super fast DC hack.
Step 1: Acquire penne pasta. This is pretty much a staple in the DC dinner selection, faithfully stepping in when the other options of the day fail to strike your fancy. Unfortunately, it does not offer the al dente perfection you may seek in your pasta, and the traditional topping of tomato sauce can become tiresome, but wait! We can yet salvage this meal and achieve actualized tastiness.
Step 2: Head to the salad bar. The salad bar is your friend. Here you can add whatever veggies fit your fancy, be they cherry tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, peppers, red onions, olives, even beans.
Step 3: Choose your cheese(s). Personally, feta is always a tasty choice.
Step 4: Choose your dressing. Unfortunately we don’t have a fabulous cream sauce for our penne creation, but you can substitute with your choice of salad dressing. A light Italian dressing certainly works, but feel free to experiment!
Step 5: Mangia! While it may not attain the perfection of al dente pasta with a luxurious sauce, this simple combination can liven up your DC pasta experience. Enjoy!
