The four students participating in Haverford College’s newly launched Interdisciplinary Documentary Media Fellowship have returned from their first trip to the Gulf Coast: a four-day, whirlwind tour from Pensacola, Fla., to New Orleans, La., during which they filmed Assistant Professor of Chemistry Helen White and her two student interns as they collected oil samples.
Last Thursday night was packed with discussions, workshops, and presentations; there was something for everyone on the calendar!
Wednesday, May 1, the second annual Tri-Co Film Festival took over Bryn Mawr Film Institute, and of the nine awards given out that night, five went to Ford filmmakers.
The animated senior thesis of Jon Appel ’12 and a 10-minute documentary by Carl Sigmond ’13, Gebby Keny ’14 and Vanessa Douglas ’12 about Sigmond’s grandfather, who discovered streptomycin, were the winners at the first ever Tri-Co Film Festival, which was held at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute on May 2.
Director Ben Hickernell ’00 (Lebanon, Pa.) brought the cast and crew of his upcoming indie sports romance, Backwards, to campus to film at the Haverford College Apartments this July.
