We welcomed the Class of 2017 to Haverford and oriented them to campus life ¬†with Customs, the College’s five-day first-year experience program. It was a busy five days of annual traditions like Dorm Olympics and the trust walk, and social events, like dinners with their Bryn Mawr College “cousins.” Here is a look at how our newest community members spent their first few days on campus.

  1. This looks too much like Frat house antics (one reason I came to Haverford in the distant past of the previous century was that it was fraternity free). I hope it doesn’t become a tradition.

  2. Loved the pictures. It looked like a lot of fun.

  3. The Dorm Olympics tradition is an opportunity for the Freshman class to come together and appreciate all of the unique talents that they have in a forum that is appropriate. This means the talents are silly, unique, and sometimes completely unexpected. None of the freshmen are at all forced and coerced into performing these talents, they are merely asked if they would like to participate. This is the distinction from “Frat house activities”. They do not have to participate, and there are no consequences if they do not participate. The whole of the freshman class appreciates those that do choose to come forward and share their talents because they add to the vibrant community that we work to foster during Customs Week.
