The Haverford community got to preview the work of the College’s talented spoken-word crew, the Squad, before its members head to the University of Michigan to compete in the 2011 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational on April 6. The March 25 showcase was especially memorable because it was hosted by M1 of Brooklyn-based hip-hop duo, Dead Prez, who has been working on campus as the Africana Studies artist-scholar in residence. The showcase was packed with students, faculty and staff, and the exclamation point at the end of an already rousing evening was an intimate live performance by M1 in the basement of Lunt.
