Past and Present Outskirts Unite

Saturday night in Ryan Gym, all-female a cappella group the Outskirts, which started on campus in 2001 with just eight members, swelled to a 23-person ensemble. The reunion show was the brainchild of Outskirts alumna Chloe Levenson ’09 and was the result a lot of hard work.

When the Outskirts were on tour this year in New York, Chloe insisted that they put on an alumni show. Soon afterward, current Outskirts went to work contacting former members to find out who would be interested in returning to their a cappella roots.

The show brought 11 former Outskirts to the campus, including Karel Chan ’04, one of the group’s founding members, for an event that included a pre-show rehearsal and a  group dinner.

The show set list was a a combination of old and new songs. The current members of the Outskirts performed the senior solos: a nice send-off for those soon-to-be alumni. The former and current members sang two songs together, Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough” and Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The alumni singers also brought back some old favorites, including Hanson’s “Runaway Run,” which was the first song  the Outskirts ever performed!

It was a great day and night full of excitement and bonding. Our alumni may not be Haverford students anymore, but they will always be Outskirts.
