On May 5, 2010, Haverford College Bookstore and fellow independent bookselling colleagues Children’s Book World presented Rick Riordan: The Red Pyramid Tour. Riordan is the author of the New York Times #1 best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. His latest release, The Red Pyramid, is the first installment of the Kane Chronicles, a new series for young adult readers that revolves around Egyptian mythology.
The evening came about through a series of serendipitous coincidences and the cooperation of many departments on campus. Children’s Book World needed a large venue in which to host the appearance of the hugely popular author and the Haverford College Bookstore jumped in to co-sponsor the event which took place in Marshall Auditorium.
Riordan explained to a rapt audience of over 700 fans what inspired him to begin writing and answered a wide variety of questions from his enthusiastic young readers. He then spent the better part of the evening signing each attendee’s books and soliciting their additional questions. It was a special evening for all involved.
