The HCA garden has 3 new raised beds! At the beginning of May, Bruce Willis and I went to Lowe’s with Claudia Kent to buy lumber, hardware and a hundred bags of top soil. We built and filled the beds with the help of Lake Giffen-Hunter and planted them with tomatos, peppers, eggplants, pumpkins and beans. Both the HCA garden and the student community garden plot are blossoming. This season we have been experimenting with permaculture techniques in both spaces, increasing crop diversity by creating plant guilds, and incorporating perennials such as berries and herbs. The gardens are providing lots of fresh vegetables for summer residents, with ample surplus going to the Ardmore Food Pantry twice a week.
