Meghan McAllister ’10

I am a rising senior studying Growth & Structure of Cities. This summer, I will be researching the architecture of social housing in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I am focusing on finding ways to incorporate peacebuilding into the design process of social housing in highly religiously segregated neighborhoods. I will be meeting with several community and governmental organizations, various architects and planners, as well as professors at the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering at Queens University Belfast. A few days per week, I will also be volunteering with on-site construction with Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland. My research will culminate in my senior thesis, which includes both a written paper and a design project. Having family roots in Belfast, I feel deeply tied to these issues and look forward to a challenging and rewarding summer.
