Bethel A.M.E. Academy: Help tutor children from Philadelphia and the surrounding neighborhoods at a church right here in Ardmore! Easter Egg Hunt

esteiner | April 16, 2010

On April 3, more than sixty families ventured to Haverford’s campus for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. With arts & crafts at the ready to entertain the kids until the hunt began, everyone seemed to be enjoying the beautiful day. It was an fun experience to provide this opportunity for so many community families. Parents commented on how pleasant it was to be able to show up, spend time with their kids and not have to worry about any of the details. At noon the kids were divided into two groups by age, with the older group going for their hunt on Barclay Beach and the younger kids on Lloyd Green. No matter the number of eggs each child found, they all seemed to have a great time.

AND…. A special opportunity to celebrate Easter, have fun, and play with kids, RIGHT HERE ON CAMPUS! 8th Dimension is going to host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 3rd for children from the surrounding community. At 11:30am, parents and children (many clad in bunny outfits or wearing bunny ear headbands) gather together in Founders Great Hall for some refreshments and arts & crafts with Haverford student volunteers. While the children decorate their own Easter egg bags with stickers, markers and glitter, Haverford student volunteers hide the Easter eggs. There are two hunts: one on Lloyd Green for kids ages 2-4, and one behind Barclay Hall for kids ages 5-10. None of this would be possible without the help of Haverford student volunteers. 8D’s annual Easter egg hunt is definitely a favorite of both Haverford student volunteers and children from the community alike!

Remember, just e-mail 8dstaff@haverford.edu for more info on any of these opportunities. And join our facebook group!!

Hope to see you soon!

Tree Planting is good for you and me!

Stephanie Strockis '11 | March 25, 2010

On the 20th, we had a very successful service day at the Gwynedd Wildlife Preserve, helping plant 400 trees for reforesting efforts. Getting up at 7:30 on a Saturday morning is not the ideal for most college students, but our group was ready to go. We planted oaks and black willows mostly, and there were a lot of families and people from the surrounding area to work with. As a huge group, we were able to plant all the trees in less than two hours. All in all, we left being able to breathe a little easier.

There should be even more opportunities to help out the environment this April, with the nice weather and upcoming EARTH day. So keep a look out for those!
