Bethel A.M.E. Academy: Help tutor children from Philadelphia and the surrounding neighborhoods at a church right here in Ardmore! It’s only a 10 minute walk from campus, and this after-school program provides a much needed service to local children, helping them with homework and making learning fun! Contact Laura Hecht (lhecht@haverford.edu).
Street Outreach: Students meet each Wednesday night in the Dining Center to make and deliver sandwiches and soup to Logan Circle in Philadelphia. Contact Zachary Needell (zneedell@haverford.edu) & Caila Heyison (cheyison@haverford.edu).
1-on-1 Tutoring: Haverford’s community tutoring program. Participants tutor students in the Ardmore area who commonly attend Haverford’s summer day camp, Serendipity. Contact Meredith Schoyer (mschoyer@haverford.edu) & Priya Khurana (pkhurana@haverford.edu).
AIDS Service Network (ASN): Participants do a variety of collaborative work with AIDS organizations in the Philadelphia area and around the world. Contact Josh Dubow (jdubow@haverford.edu).
Heston Tutoring: Heston Elementary in West Philadelphia receives Haverford volunteer tutors several days weekly. Tutors work in various subjects with the same students each week. Contact Emily Steiner (esteiner@haverford.edu) & Lucas Fuentes (lfuentes@haverford.edu).
Housing Outreach Action Project (HOAP): Every year volunteers are sent to do alternative Spring Break trips with Habitat and other organizations.
Stitch-n-Bitch: This is a charity knitting/crochet group that knits hats and scarves and other handmade accessories for those who to be kept warm! Contact Zachary Feinberg (zfeinber@haverford.edu).
